BIG DOG IN ACTION
Big Dog Demolition, Inc. was awarded one of the leading demolition
contracts in Charlotte to date with the Wachovia Main Renovation.
This project required the complete interior and exterior demolition
of one of the largest buildings in Uptown Charlotte.
Removing the “skin” of the building required the removal
of 150 pre-cast
panels weighing 1,200 lbs. each. Big Dog Demolition’s rigging crew
used a tower crane to remove these panels. The interior demolition
included the complete strip out of all 14 floors including the removal
finishes, HVAC components, 7 elevator shafts and 2 vaults, doors and
frames, weighing 16,000 lbs. each. The East and West side stairwells
were demolished from basement level to rooftop.
The amazing success of this project was a result of the simultaneous
involvement of all divisions of Big Dog Demolition. Big Dog Roll-Off
had the most difficult task of providing new containers on demand to
confined jobsite on one of the busiest streets in the Uptown Charlotte.
In addition, Big Dog Concrete Cutting used their expert saw cutting
abilities to deconstruct the 13th and 14th floors, containing column
beams and floor slabs, to make way for new construction.
Openings were cut throughout the building for new elevator
shafts and stairwells as well.
This project was completed safely in 8 months.
